Branch Office in Japan

Want to know more about Branch Office in Japan? Check out our video and get in touch with us at Seventh Sense Group!

Last time we talked about opening a representative office in Japan. This time, let’s talk about the branch office. It is called “支店” (shiten) in Japanese.

Similar to the representative office, you need to appoint a representative and then secure the office. From a head office (foreign company), you will need to prepare an affidavit for registration with Japan’s Legal Affair Bureau.

Branch offices can engage in commercial activities, which increases their scope of activities and responsibilities (tax). However, even though branches are registered, they are not fully independent in terms of legal status. Their debts, liabilities and administration all depend on their head office.
